New York City is quite the experience. One I would be willing to experience again.
Our hotel was the Wellington Hotel. An older hotel which needs some updating, especially fresh paint but it was charming in it's own way. The website makes it look like the rooms are spacious, but our room was anything but spacious.
On our first day, we just wandered around. Headed down to Times Square. We ate lunch at Bubba Gump's taking in the surroundings from our window seat. We then headed over to the Rockefeller Center. We stopped at International Center of Photography Museum which showed lots of interesting photographs. At the Rockefeller Center, we took the NBC Studio Tour where we saw the sets for Dateline, NBC Nightly News and Saturday Night Live. They are in the process of remodeling sets for broadcast in HDTV. Many of the shortcuts used before on building sets can not be used now. After leaving The Rock, we were asked by an NBC Intern on the street if we would like to attend the taping of a show. This was for Dr. Keith Ablow, a psychiatrist who is beginning a show similar to Dr. Phil. We decided to do it. Unfortunately, the topic was not one we really appreciated, but it was interesting to see how these shows are taped.
We went back to the hotel to rest and then went to the Broadway show Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. This was funny but there were a couple of scenes that were raunchy. We took our tiime walking back to the hotel, finding the Hello Deli and the Ed Sullivan Theater on the way back. Both were closed.
Our second day in the city found us taking the Gray Line Comprehensive Manhattan Tour which took us all over Manhattan. Points of interest were: Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero, the Winter Garden, various buildings around Lower Manahattan, the United Nations, Central Park, Harlem, St. John the Divine Cathedral among many others. This was a day long tour where we got to see many things. We had supper at Maxi's and then went up the Empire State Building.
Our last day, we walked up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and walked around there a couple of hours and did not even begin to see very much of it. This is huge with lots of famous pieces of work. We took a cab back to the hotel were we freshened up and went to Lower Manhattan to have dinner with David's cousin. We had hors derves at his appartment and then walked a few blocks to a nice Italian restaurant where we lingered over dinner talking. We took the subway back to our hotel.
